What Your Body Is Trying to Tell You: 9 Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

What Your Body Is Trying to Tell You: 9 Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore

The body is a magnificent machine. When things go awry, it generally doesn’t just shut down without warning, like an incandescent light bulb popping its filament. Instead it sends us little signals (think of them as gentle biological taps on the shoulder) letting us know that something is amiss.

“Physical signs and symptoms are ways your body tries to alert you to deeper imbalances,” says Elson M. Haas, MD, a San Rafael, Calif., physician with a natural-medicine approach and author of Staying Healthy with Nutrition (Celestial Arts, 2006). “Taking the time to decipher the body’s codes is always better than simply popping a pill and hoping the symptoms just go away. Ideally, we want to get to the causes of problems, not just suppress the end result of ill health.” But interpreting the body’s quirky Morse code requires a deep level of body awareness that, like any skill, takes time and practice to perfect. To that end, we recruited a handful of the country’s leading integrative health practitioners to help identify nine of the most common conditions underlying frequent, and sometimes mysterious, symptoms. Read on to clue into your body’s messages.

You’re drinking too much diet soda…

One likely signal: Headaches

Background: Artificial sweeteners, particularly aspartame (found in Nutrasweet and Equal), can trigger headaches, even migraines. At highest risk are people with a genetic disorder called phenylketonuria (or PKU for short); they lack the enzyme needed to metabolize a substance (phenylalanine) that is created when the body breaks down aspartame. But even those without the genetic disorder may find that drinking diet soda results in brain fog or headache. Why? Animal studies have shown aspartame to be a potent neurotoxin, at least in young rats. I’m concerned about whether aspartame might cause nerve damage in humans, as well — or at least disrupt the nerve signaling that enables the brain to register satiety,” says Sharon Fowler, MPH, a faculty associate at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio who studies the health effects of artificial sweetener use. One of the prime suspects is the methanol in aspartame, which is broken down into formaldehyde, a known carcinogen. People who are sensitive to formaldehyde may experience headaches after ingesting aspartame.

Other signals: Intense cravings for sweet or salty foods, inability to focus, irritability

How to respond: When the urge for diet soda strikes, Kathie Swift, MS, RD, LDN, chief nutrition adviser for the online-based sites MyFoodMyHealth and My Foundation Diet, suggests drinking sparkling water flavored with a splash of 100 percent fruit juice and a squeeze of lime.

You’ve got candida overgrowth…

One likely signal: Itchy ears, throat or mucus membranes

Background: The average American downs nearly 150 pounds of sugar and high-fructose corn syrup a year, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. And if you’re eating anywhere near that much sugar, you may have more than just a sweet tooth — your body may be hosting an unhealthy overgrowth of Candida albicans. A small amount of this common, yeast like fungus living in the gut is OK when its numbers are kept in check by healthy flora. But when an intestinal imbalance allows it to run amok, it acts like kudzu, colonizing everything in its path. Among its favorite environs are the body’s warm, dark nooks and crannies, such as between the toes, under the breasts and, yes, in the ears. As it infiltrates, it irritates and inflames the skin, leading to the telltale signs of itching and redness.

Other signals: Mood swings, fatigue, weak immune system, weight gain, frequent yeast infections

How to respond: If you think you have candida overgrowth, the quickest fix is to starve the little buggers. Candida flourish in the presence of both refined and unrefined sugar, such as fresh fruit, dried fruit and fruit juice. Cutting off their food supply can bring their numbers back to a healthy level. They also love refined flour products and anything fermented, such as alcohol and soy, so if you have a serious overgrowth, you may need to cut out all of the above for a number of consecutive weeks.

You’re dehydrated…

One likely signal: Chapped lips

Background: Lips are a reflection of the health and hydration of the entire body. “If you are well hydrated, then your lips will be well hydrated,” says Elizabeth Lipski, PhD, clinical nutritionist and author of Digestive Wellness (McGraw-Hill, 2004). Less water in the body means less moisture for the skin– the body’s largest organ. The delicate tissue of the lips is extra sensitive to drought. “If you are constantly using lip balm or lip gloss to sooth chapped lips, it’s a sign you need to drink up,” says Lipski.

Other signals: Headaches, infrequent urination, dark yellow or smelly urine, dry skin, slow turgor (meaning that if you pinch the skin on the back of your hand, it doesn’t snap right back into place). Although the aging process slows turgor down somewhat, even in older adults it still should return to normal within a second or two.

How to respond: Drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day can be intimidating, says Swift, so if you’re not able to quaff that amount, you can still get hydrated by sipping herbal tea and working additional servings of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet. “The transition to a more whole-foods diet puts us on autopilot to get more water because they are naturally high in moisture,” says Swift. And, make sure to include whole foods that are rich in essential fatty acids, such as nuts and seeds, avocados, and anchovies and sardines, which help maintain healthy cell membranes and hold in moisture.

You’re not getting enough fiber…

One likely signal: Constipation

Background: Constipation is the clearest indicator of the body’s need for more fiber. “Our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate up to 100 grams of fiber a day and had an average stool weight of 2 pounds,” says Mark Hyman, MD, the editor of Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine and author of The UltraSimple Diet (Pocket Books, 2007).

“Today, the average American eats less than 8 grams of fiber a day, and the average bowel movement is a puny 4 ounces.” That’s a problem, he says, because the bowels are key to the body’s elimination process. When traffic is backed up, toxins from the bowel leach back into the body and can cause a multitude of inflammation-based health problems in everything from your digestion and skin to your heart and brain. They can also disrupt hormonal balance and immunity. The bottom line, Hyman says: “If stools are hard and hard to pass, you’ve got a problem.”

Other signals: Frequent hunger pangs, energy slumps, digestive trouble, skin problems, inflammatory conditions

How to respond: Eat more legumes, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. All are chock-full of fiber and other nutrients, making them natural go-to foods. Getting the recommended 35 to 40 grams of fiber a day not only improves bowel health, but it also lowers the risk of diabetes and heart disease, says Andrew Weil, MD, director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine of the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

If you want other ways to sneak extra roughage into your day, Swift suggests sprinkling rice-bran fiber on salads or oatmeal. She likes rice-bran fiber because it’s gluten-free and has been shown to help eliminate toxins, such as PCBs. Another one of her favorite fiber boosters is a seasoning she makes out of crushed pumpkin seeds, ground flax meal, sesame seeds, kelp flakes and sea salt — basically, a riff on gomasio, which is used as a salt alternative in Japanese cuisine. Put it in a wrap, sprinkle over brown rice or use to garnish soups, she says. “The nuts, seeds and ocean veggies are a nutrient- and fiber-licous powerhouse.” (Keep it in the fridge to lengthen its lifespan.)

You have a B-vitamin deficiency…

One likely signal: Cracks at the corners of the mouth

Background: “You see nutritional deficiencies first in those tissues that turn over the quickest, such as the tongue and lips,” says Lipski. Studies show that cracks or sores that appear at the corners of the mouth (a.k.a. cheilitis) may be a sign that your body isn’t getting enough B vitamins. “Deficiencies of one or more of the B vitamins may occur fairly easily,” notes Haas, “especially with diets that include substantial amounts of refined and processed food, sugar or alcohol.”

Other signals: Anemia, low energy, fatigue, skin problems, dark circles under the eyes

How to respond: Your best bet is eating a whole-foods diet and prioritizing foods high in B vitamins. The richest dietary source of B vitamins is found in brewer’s yeast or nutritional yeast (although, if you have candida issues, you’ll want to skip those). Other solid picks include wheat germ, whole grains, legumes, egg yolks, sweet potatoes, salmon, red meat, liver and poultry.

Taking a good B-complex vitamin supplement can also be helpful (particularly if you’re a vegetarian). Under the care of a nutritionally inclined health professional, you may also be prescribed a supplement for a specific B vitamin (or even given a vitamin B-12 shot) to help correct a significant deficiency. But be careful mixing up your own B-vitamin cocktails. When taken in excess and out of balance with other B’s, certain B vitamins can wind up leaching nutrients out of your system. That’s why emphasizing B-rich foods should be your first priority.

You’re eating something that doesn’t agree with you…

One likely signal: Eczema

Background: First a little background about food intolerances. When the body doesn’t tolerate a food well, ingesting that food creates a chronic, low-level irritation or inflammation in the gut. Over time, with regular exposure, the irritation worsens and creates fissures in the spaces between the cells. (Picture the walls of the gut, once tightly knitted together, looking more like an old afghan.) These holes allow bacteria and their toxins, as well as incompletely digested proteins and fats, to “leak” out of the gut and into the bloodstream. Called leaky gut syndrome (or increased intestinal permeability), this condition sets the stage for myriad health problems, including rashes and skin problems, like eczema.

The skin is the body’s largest elimination organ, notes Lipski, so it’s not surprising that it comes under assault when toxins careen through the bloodstream. “A skin rash or eczema is a sign that the body is trying to slough out these toxins,” she says. “It’s trying to eliminate the problem the best way it knows how.

Other signals: Gas, bloating, fatigue, sinus congestion, foggy thinking

How to respond: An elimination diet is the best way to pinpoint the offending food. “Start with one or two foods you suspect,” says Swift, who prefers to call this the “illumination diet” because its focus is on “illuminating your health.”

Don’t know where to start? Foods that are most likely to wreak havoc on the gut include wheat and gluten-containing products, dairy products, sugar, soy, eggs, corn and yeast. If you’re uber-motivated, take Haas’s advice and go off what he calls “the big five” for a week: wheat, dairy, sugar, caffeine and alcohol. “It’s not easy to do”, he admits, “but you’re guaranteed to learn a lot about your body’s signals.” You might also consider keeping a food journal. Spend a week or two writing down what you eat and how your body feels in the minutes, hours and days afterward (e.g., an hour after you eat dairy, you feel bloated). “It’s about pattern and symptom recognition and connecting the dots,” says Swift, which in turn helps you decide which foods to eliminate first.

You’re drinking too much caffeine…

One likely signal: Fatigue

Background: “Caffeine goes to an already low energy bank account and tries to lend it a little extra energy for the short term,” says Haas. “But it’s getting that energy from your own stores, meaning you have less and less on reserve, leaving you less able to generate your own energy on an ongoing basis.”

Caffeine works by stimulating the central nervous system. Specifically, the chemical gooses the adrenal glands into releasing hormones — namely cortisol and adrenaline that tell the body to go faster. The short-term result can be increased focus and better hand-eye coordination. But overdo caffeine on a regular basis and, eventually, the central nervous system runs out of gas. “If you don’t restore yourself with sleep, nutrients and relaxation, you’ll quickly get into a cycle of whipping a weakened horse,” says Haas.

Other signals: Jitters, agitation, insomnia, heartbeat irregularities, frequent urination

How to respond: Weil advises limiting your daily dose of caffeine to less than 300 milligrams (mg). As a reference, a 12-ounce cup of Starbucks brewed coffee packs 260 mg of caffeine, while a 12-ounce Americano (two shots of the coffee chain’s espresso added to hot water) contains 150 mg. A 12-ounce cup of black tea, on the other hand, contains roughly 100 mg and green tea only 50 mg. “If you’re going to indulge,” advises Swift, “think about the quality of the source. Are you drinking green tea or a chemical-laden energy drink? What’s a healthy amount for you? Most people know what amount their system can handle,” she says. In the meantime, support your adrenal glands with B vitamins (especially B5/pantothenic acid), vitamin C and licorice. Also, fuel up on healthy, whole foods that boost and maintain your energy.

You’re low on stomach acid…

One likely signal: Burping and indigestion

Background: If you’re low on stomach acid, your body won’t digest foods efficiently, especially dense foods like fats and proteins. When food sits in the stomach, so does the air you naturally swallow when you eat. The air has only two options — get pushed down the digestive tract with food or catch the next flight up the esophagus and out the mouth. The longer food loiters in the stomach, the more likely you’ll burp.

Other signals: Gastric reflux, weak immune system, cracked fingernails, chronic infections, gas

How to respond: Boost the first phase of digestion by becoming a more “sensory-based eater,” says Swift. “That means enjoy the sight and smell of the meal before you dig in so that your gut has time to release digestive factors, such as hydrochloric acid, in anticipation of a meal.” Then, eat more mindfully. Chew your food so that it’s easier for the gut to digest, especially proteins and fats.

If you still feel like your food sits in your stomach like a rock, Haas recommends trying digestive enzymes, which can help you better digest your food. For example, he says, you might try a product called betaine hydrochloride with pepsin (a time-released protein digestant), found at health-food stores.

Hydrochloric acid is the main ingredient in stomach acid. By taking it as a supplement, you’re basically giving your stomach a head start, especially with proteins and fats, which are the hardest food stuffs to digest, meaning they require more stomach acids than carbs. After you begin eating a meal with protein and fat, for instance, take one capsule. See how you feel after a couple of meals. If you feel OK, you can try two capsules and gradually increase to three or four. If you have any sensation of burning or acid indigestion, cut back to a level where you didn’t experience any negative side effects.

You’re short on good flora…

One likely signal: Frequent colds

Background: The immune system‘s command center is housed inside the gut. “An ecological imbalance of organisms in the gut means the body can’t defend itself against unfriendly microbes,” says Swift. “The result is we get sick a lot.” Ironically, says Hyman, it’s often medicine, such as antibiotics, that wipe out the gut’s supply of good bacteria. “When we wipe them out again and again with antibiotics and then eat a poor diet, it’s a disaster for the gut.” That, in turn, can spell trouble for the rest of the body.

Other signals: Intestinal gas, bloating, loose stools or constipation, vaginal yeast infections, urinary tract infections, skin rash, athlete’s foot, nail fungus

How to respond: The experts agree that one of the easiest (and most delicious) ways to restore the gut’s healthy flora is to eat more foods rich in good bacteria, such as miso, sauerkraut, kombucha (a fermented Japanese tea), yogurt that contains live bacteria, and kefir (a fermented milk drink). “The gut houses 5 pounds of beneficial bacteria,” notes Haas. “We have to feed this stuff.”

If you think your gut needs more than food can deliver, Weil recommends taking a daily probiotic that contains Lactobacillus GG or Bacillus coagulans (BC-30).
Although many of the body’s messages can be decoded with a little guesswork and a lot of active listening, it’s important to remember that some of these same symptoms can be signs of more serious illnesses. If, after a couple of weeks of self-care, things don’t improve or resolve, it’s best to consult a health-care professional.

“A chronic ache or pain is an invitation to stop and take a look at your life,” says Lipski. “Your body is telling you it’s time to make a change. Respect its request and odds are you’ll be heading off a greater health issue down the pike.”

More Than One Way to Heal

A multipronged approach to health-care — seeking advice from both alternative medicine practitioners as well as Western doctors — can help you decode your body’s warning signals before they cascade into something more serious.

Western medicine has many strengths: stamping out infections; treating emergencies, like heart attacks; and swooping in with trauma care after an accident or disaster. But when a condition is hard to diagnose, or is chronic or nagging, like poor digestion, insomnia or general fatigue, going outside the doctor’s office may be your best bet.

“Most medical-school curriculum focuses on acute care and doesn’t adequately train for chronic health issues — which constitute the most common troubles for most of the patients they see,” says Elizabeth Lipski, PhD, CCN, and author of Digestive Wellness (McGraw-Hill, 2004).

As both a medical doctor and a naturopath, Elson M. Haas has a foot in each world. He tends to agree with Lipski’s take, and he also sees limitations in the way that Western medical practitioners typically try to snuff out the body’s attempts to heal.

“Many symptoms, such as sinus congestion, allergies and excess mucus, are ways it’s trying to rid itself of excess toxins,” he says. “Western medicine tries to control these symptoms, by suppressing the fever or drying up the congestion, instead of supporting the body’s natural means of elimination and detoxification.”

Alternative practitioners come in many forms. In addition to your primary care physician, consider seeing a chiropractor or osteopath if your condition is skeletal; a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner for hormone imbalances; or a naturopath for overall wellness, digestive, immunity and dietary advice. All of these modalities have regulating organizations that provide lists of qualified practitioners.

The roots of memory impairment resulting from sleep deprivation

The roots of memory impairment resulting from sleep deprivation

From high-school students to surgeons, anyone who has pulled an all-nighter knows there is a price to be paid the next day: trouble focusing, a fuzzy memory and other cognitive impairments. Now, researchers at Penn have found the part of the brain and the neurochemical basis for sleep deprivation's effects on memory. Ted Abel, a professor of biology in Penn's School of Arts and Sciences and director of the University's interdisciplinary Biological Basis of Behavior program, led the research team. His partners included Cedrick Florian, a postdoctoral fellow in biology, and Christopher Vecsey, a neuroscience graduate student, as well as researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Tufts University.
Their research was published in The Journal of Neuroscience.
Abel's group aimed to better understand the role of the nucleoside adenosine in the hippocampus, the part of the brain associated with memory function.
"For a long time, researchers have known that sleep deprivation results in increased levels of adenosine in the brain, and has this effect from fruit flies to mice to humans." Abel said. "There is accumulating evidence that this adenosine is really the source of a number of the deficits and impact of sleep deprivation, including memory loss and attention deficits. One thing that underscores that evidence is that caffeine is a drug that blocks the effects of adenosine, so we sometimes refer to this as 'the Starbucks experiment.'"
Abel's research actually involved two parallel experiments on sleep-deprived mice, designed to test adenosine's involvement in memory impairment in different ways.
One experiment involved genetically engineered mice. These mice were missing a gene involved in the production of glial transmitters, chemicals signals that originate from glia, the brain cells that support the function of neurons. Without these gliatransmitters, the engineered mice could not produce the adenosine the researchers believed might cause the cognitive effects associated sleep deprivation.
The other experiment involved a pharmacological approach. The researchers grafted a pump into the brains of mice that hadn't been genetically engineered; the pump delivered a drug that blocked a particular adenosine receptor in the hippocampus. If the receptor was indeed involved in memory impairment, sleep-deprived mice would behave as if the additional adenosine in their brains was not there.
To see whether these mice showed the effects of sleep deprivation, the researchers used an object recognition test. On the first day, mice were placed in a box with two objects and were allowed to explore them while being videotaped. That night, the researchers woke some of the mice halfway through their normal 12-hour sleep schedule.
On the second day, the mice were placed back in the box, where one of the two objects had been moved, and were once again videotaped as they explored to see how they reacted to the change.
"Mice would normally explore that moved object more than other objects, but, with sleep deprivation, they don't," Abel said. "They literally don't know where things are around them."
Both sets of treated mice explored the moved object as if they had received a full night's sleep.
"These mice don't realize they're sleep-deprived," Abel said.
Abel and his colleagues also examined the hippocampi of the mice, using electrical current to measure their synaptic plasticity, or how strong and resilient their memory-forming synapses were. The pharmacologically and genetically protected mice showed greater synaptic plasticity after being sleep deprived than the untreated group.
Combined, the two experiments cover both halves of the chemical pathway involved in sleep deprivation. The genetic engineering experiment shows where the adenosine comes from: glia's release of adenosine triphosphate, or ATP, the chemical by which cells transfer energy to one another. And the pharmacological experiment shows where the adenosine goes: the A1 receptor in the hippocampus.
The knowledge that interrupting the pathway at either end results in mice that show no memory impairments is a major step forward in understanding how to manage those impairments in humans.
"To be able to reverse a particular aspect of sleep-deprivation, such as its effect on memory storage, we really want to understand the molecular pathways and targets," Abel said. "Here, we've identified the molecule, the cellular circuit and the brain region by which sleep deprivation affects memory storage."
Such treatments would be especially enticing, given how sensitive the brain is to sleep deprivation's effects.
"Our sleep deprivation experiments are the equivalent of losing half of a night sleep for a single night," Abel said. "Most of us would think that's pretty minor, but it shows just how critical the need for sleep is for things like cognition."
In addition to Abel, Florian and Vescey, the research was conducted by Michael M. Halassa of the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Department of Brain and Cognitive Science at MIT, as well as Philip G. Haydon, of the Department of Neuroscience at the Tufts University School of Medicine. The research was supported by the National Institutes of Health.

IS CHINA BECOMING A CHRISTIAN STATE?

Scholar: China Notices Link Between Christianity, U.S. Economic Success

By Michelle A. Vu | Christian Post Reporter

WASHINGTON – The officially atheist Chinese government is surprisingly open to Christianity, at least partially, because it sees a link between the faith and economic success, said a sought after scholar who has relations with governments in Asia.

  • William Jeynes
    (Photo: The Christian Post)
Dr. William Jeynes, professor of education at California State University in Long Beach and non-resident scholar at Baylor University, gives a presentation titled, "God, China & Capitalism: Is Christianity in China the Key Ingredient for Economic Success?" at Family Reserach Council in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, May 17, 2011.
China believes that Christianity is responsible for much of the historic success of Western Europe and the United States, said Dr. William Jeynes, senior fellow of The Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, N.J., during a presentation at the Family Research Council on Tuesday.
But while the Chinese government is open to Christianity, it also “wants to control Christianity.” Those in authority are very much aware of the Church’s role in bringing down the Berlin Wall and advancing democracy in the Soviet bloc.
“They view Christianity as a belief system that if not controlled will potentially overthrow the government,” said Jeynes during his lecture titled, “God, China & Capitalism: Is Christianity in China the Key Ingredient for Economic Success?” “But on the other [hand], they see that if you try to oppress Christians that it could lead to this explosion as it did in Eastern Europe and [they could] lose control that way.
“So they want Christianity for the benefits but they want to control it, and that is the balance they are currently trying to achieve.”
The scholar, who has multiple degrees in different disciplines and graduated first in his class at Harvard University, recalled an incident that confirms that China believes Christianity is responsible for the economic prosperity in the U.S. At a Harvard Business Conference years ago, Jeynes recalled top Chinese CEOs one after another asking Harvard scholars not about their talking points but about the relationship between Christianity and economic prosperity in the United States.
Like us on Facebook
The Harvard scholars, Jeynes noted, were baffled and did not know how to respond.
China, however, is not the first to make a connection between the Christian faith and economic prosperity. German sociologist and political economist Max Weber wrote the book The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism in which he argued that ascetic Protestantism was a major reason behind the rise of capitalism and the economic success of the Western world.
Weber observed that Christianity produces good work ethic and subsequently economic prosperity because it instills a sense of calling and people are more determined and more passionate about their work. The German economist also contended that Christianity promotes honesty, which is necessary to build trust that is essential in economic transactions; encourages people to be their best and be concerned about their neighbors’ standard of living; and discourages materialism.
Other world religions do not promote economic prosperity like Christianity, contended Weber.
Hinduism believes Hindus are born and not made so there is a large degree of passivity in the religion, Weber observed. Also, the Hindu caste system is not conducive to instilling a work ethic where people push themselves harder with the hope that they can rise above their current situation.
In Buddhism, which shares many similarities with Hinduism, followers are taught the importance of respect and deference to the point that they support the status quo instead of change. Buddhism also defines “desire” as fundamentally wrong, whereas in Christianity there is a distinction between the desire to glorify God and love people versus selfish and evil desires.
Meanwhile, Confucianism, dominant in East Asia, leaves less room for social mobility than Christianity because it emphasizes hierarchy. It also is more supportive of dominating forms of government than Christianity, Weber noted.
And with Islam, the hierarchical value is even more emphasized than in Confucianism. Islamemphasizes compliance rather than freedom of grace that Jesus brings. Christianity’s teaching of God’s love encourages followers to help raise the living standards of others, the economist also observed.
As Weber, other scholars, and now the Chinese government observe, where Christianity is dominant there is economic prosperity.
American Orthodox Rabbi Daniel Lapin, who is a political commentator, noted that 90 percent of scientific discoveries over the last 1,000 years were in nations where Christianity was dominant.
Many in the Chinese government, said Jeynes, believe that Christianity might be China’s best hope to establish morality as well as economic prosperity. Immorality is so “out-of-control” in China that a Chinese leader confided to him that if one were to randomly call someone from the Beijing phone book and offer the person $2,500 to come to a hotel room for sexual relations, then one out of three strangers would agree.
“The Chinese believe that if the level of immorality that exists today, sexual immorality especially, persists, then the economic strength of the country cannot continue,” said Jeynes. “So they very quickly want to teach morality, especially to the young before their economy might indeed collapse.
“It is not that they embrace Christianity with the most pure motive,” Jeynes noted. “A lot of their motive is it is good for our country, the morality of the country, and if we want economic prosperity to continue we need to have a more invitational approach to those who are Christian.”
There are an estimated 100 million Christians in China, about 75 million of whom are in the “underground” church, said Jeynes, and the number of believers is growing by six to seven million a year.
The professor of education at California State University in Long Beach also spent time talking about arrests and persecution of house church Christians in China. He ascribed the crackdown to China being nervous about Christianity and its potential threat to the government’s power.
Christians in China are divided into two groups: those in the independent house church and those in the government-approved registered church. Jeynes revealed that the key difference between the two is whether the Gospel can be shared with minors, those under 18. Christians in registered churches are not allowed to share the Gospel with minors.
Jeynes concluded by saying that the key message he wants to convey is that China is both open to Christianity and nervous about the religion because of the potential problems it could bring to the communist government.

Knights Templar Prepare To Unite US-Iran For‘Final’ World Battle

Knights Templar Prepare To Unite US-Iran For‘Final’ World Battle
By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers
A grim top-secret Russian Federal Space Agency (FKA/RKA) report prepared for Prime Minister Putin is warning today that the Knights Templar“factions” operating in both the United States and Iran are preparing to “unite” in an effort to engulf our world in a “final battle” leaving it unprepared for an expected onslaught from the UFO fleets nearing Earth and said hidden behind the massive space objects C/2010 X12010 SO16 and 2005 YU55.
In our April 21st report “Awakening” Moon Shocks Scientists As Massive Asteroids Near Earth,” and our April 24th report “US Warns Russia: “Aliens On Their Way, Will Be Here In 2012,” we had previously warned of the growing concerns of what is now occurring in the heavens, with subsequent new warnings coming from Dr. Sergio Toscano of Argentina's Astronomical Research in Mission whostated that when NASA began to make calculations and projections of the orbit of Comet Elenin (C/2010 X1), they realized that something was wrong and the first thing they did was remove the website all information related to it.
Dr. Toscano further states in his report that Chinese scientists are now saying that behind Comet Elenin are what they describe as a “globular cluster” they say can be an alien spacecraft.
Most shocking in this report, however, is the RKA stating that Iran’s religious leaders have uncovered a plot between their President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and United States President Barack Obama they say are joined in a cabal led by the infamous Knights Templar secret society intent upon destroying our present world in order to allow the return to Earth of the “Moon God” known as the Mahdi said to be leading these UFO’s towards our planet.
In our March 4th report “Obama Warned Is Preparing World For Return Of “The Moon God” we had warned about the growing cabal between Ahmadinejad and Obama that, and has we had, likewise, reported on in our October 25, 2008 report “Iranian Leader In Secret Meet With Obama At US Military Stronghold In Hawaii,” is fast leading our world into the chaos of Total Global War.
Also, in our August 26, 2010 report “President Barack Obama: Friend or Foe? You’reGoing To Be Surprised!” we detailed the American leaders rise to power through the Chicago based Nation of Islam religious sect whose enigmatic leader Louis Farrakhan has warned his followers that our Earth can only be saved by these UFO’s and has given detailed accounts of what he says is a gigantic Earth-orbiting “Mother Plane” equipped with many weapons set to descend upon us all.
This past week, however, this Knights Templar cabal headed by Ahmadinejad and Obama suffered its greatest setback after Iranian religious authorities arrested many of their President’s top aides for crimes ranging from “sorcery” to “witchcraft.”
Ahmadinejad’s chief of staff, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei was one of those arrested and has been charged with being a “magician” and invoking djinns (spirits) while another top aide, Abbas Ghaffari, has been charged as “a man with special skills in metaphysics and connections with the unknown worlds”.
These “unknown worlds” invoked by this cabal are well known to those versed in the “magic and mystery” of the Knights Templar, and whose roots descend into our most ancient past, but whose complicated, torturous and convoluted path through history have left many learned researchers exhausted of mind.
To the most uninitiated of these things among you, the Knights Templar [whose motto: In Hoc Signo Vinces means “in this sign you will conquer”] was an organization of warrior monks whose founding in the 12th century led to their conquering the holy city of Jerusalem where they discovered what is called today as the Holy Grail.
Through skillful propaganda the Knights Templar have throughout the centuries portrayed the Holy Grail as the dish, plate, or cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper and said to possess miraculous powers, but nothing could be further from the truth.
The Holy Grail, instead, as described by the original sources extant to its discovery by the Knights Templar, were the most ancient books of Earth’s civilization detailing the exact underground locations, where the “technology of the gods” had been “stored” prior to our world’s last “overturning”.
Using the knowledge gained by the Holy Grail discovery, the Knights Templar soon rose to become the most powerful force in all of Europe threatening the “established order” of the monarchies then in rule and causing Pope Clement V, under extreme pressure from King Philip IV who owed them a vast amount of money, to issue an edict officially dissolving the their Order in 1307.
Unbeknownst to the European monarchies, however, was that in 1308, Pope Clement V had issued an edict called the “Chinon Parchment” [dated August 17-20th, 1308 Vatican: Document: Archivum Arcis Armarium D 218] that secretly absolved the last Grand Master Jacques de Molay and the rest of the leadership of the Knights Templar from charges brought against them by the Medieval Inquisition.
This secret absolution of the Knights Templar was critical to their continued survival as 18 Templar ships loaded with their treasures, and the Holy Grail parchments, that had been in port at La Rochelle, France on October 12, 1307 were able to survive the October 13th massacre of their forces (Friday the 13th) and flee to Scotland where they reconstituted themselves under the name of The United Religious, Military and Masonic Orders of the Temple and of St John of Jerusalem, Palestine, Rhodes and Malta Freemasons, or more simply, The Freemasons.
Upon the Knights Templar settling in Scotland, and using the information contained in the Holy Grail parchments, they set sail for North America in the late 1300’s where they“claimed” for their Order what is now known as The United States of America.  Their exact claim was discovered in on what is called the Kensington Runestone unearthed in the US State of Minnesota in 1898 and linked to the oldest surviving Knights Templar structure inAmerica called The Newport Tower.
In order to protect the Holy Grail parchments from further threat the Knights Templar divided them up among what they called “The Star Families”, the most important of which was the Washington clan who brought their part of it to Virginia in 1656 by putting it in the possession of John Washington who became the great-grandfather of George Washington, the first President of the United States of America and was the highest ranking Freemason in the country.
The definition of these secretive Freemason “Star Families” is the peoples who were of the bloodline of God’s kings and priests whose “divine duty” was to create a “New World Order”to guide humankind to its ultimate destiny, and which in 1935 the United States openly admitted to when in changing the reverse side of the US One Dollar Bill they included the Latin words: ANNUIT COEPTIS “Announcing Conception” (of the ) NOVUS ORDO SECLORUM “Secular New Order”.
For anyone believing that these Freemason “Star Families” no longer exist they couldn’t be more mistaken as the current President of the United States, Barack Obama is not only related to the most important American “Star Family” of George Washington (he shares a common descent with former President George Washington with Halfdan, King of Denmark and Sweden and Woden Oden), he is, also, related to the Bush dynasty “Star Family” as he is the11th cousin of the man he succeeded in office, George W. Bush. [See this link for complete genealogy of Obama]
The importance of Obama being linked by his “Star Family” connections to Bush were made even more evident this past week with the American President ordering the assassination of Osama bin Laden, but who was not really Osama bin Laden, but was his nearly identical brother Salem bin Mohammed bin 'Awad bin Laden who was reported killed on May 29, 1988, in San Antonio, Texas while on a visit to see his “best friend”, George W. Bush. [Note:In 1978, Bush and Osama bin Laden's brother, Salem bin Laden, founded Arbusto Energy, an oil company based in Texas.]
The “original” Osama bin Laden, otherwise known by his CIA code name “Tim Osman”, died of kidney failure in early 2001 as attested to, under oath, by the former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Dr. Steve R. Pieczenik who still works for the US Department of Defense, and who further stated that the September 11, 2001 attacks upon American were a“false flag” operation engineered by the “highest levels” of the US government.
The death of Osama, however, didn’t stop the US from carrying out the 9/11 attacks upon itself, and on December 13, 2001 they released a video made by Salem bin Laden, not Osama, claiming responsibility for it [photo bottom left] that was widely ridiculed as being the fake that it actually was.
Under the Islamic religious custom of Levirate Marriage, where a brother is obligated to marry the wives of his deceased brother, Salem bin Laden married the wives of his dead brother Osama and under the protection of both the CIA and Pakistan’s ISI was moved with them to his CIA protected hideaway in Abbottabad, the most protected city in all of Pakistan. [Note:Salem “Osama” bin Laden’s “hideout” in Pakistan was, perhaps, the most widely known “secret” in the intelligence world with one of America’s top journalists, Christiane Amanpour revealing on the October 3, 2008 edition of “Real Time” with Bill Maher, “I just talked to somebody very knowledgeable ... that thinks that he's in a villa, a nice comfortable villa, in Pakistan.” See video here.]
What the killing of Salem “Osama” bin Laden means, this report continues, and when coupled with the Iranian arrest of the Knights Templar factions loyal to Ahmadinejad, are that these most secretive peoples are preparing for an “end game” scenario meant to “shock and stun”the entire world and are “fast covering their tracks” lest their duplicity be discovered.
And as we had reported on in our May 4th report “US Tells Russia That Time For “Apocalypse Equation” Is Now”, the level of monstrous depravity they will sink to is without human comprehension.
To what kind of “New World Order” these Knights Templar’s are “guiding” humanity towards we can only speculate, but based on their centuries long deception of who we really are, where we really come from, and what our true purpose is, one can rest assured that whatever these answers may be they will only be revealed in rivers of blood. [Note: The last known “official” Knights Templar Order in Jerusalem were expelled from the Holy Land in 1943 (4 years into World War II) by the British and deported to Nazi Germany where Soviet files say they brokered the peace between the Allies and the Nazis allowing many of them, along with their technology, to gain access to the United States.]

12 Ways to Slash Your Cancer Risk (and Your Waistline!)

12 Ways to Slash Your Cancer Risk (and Your Waistline!)

Cancer is one tricky widget. But you can decrease your risk for many forms of cancer by following these healthy tips.

Trim the Fat

The more fat you eat, the greater your risk of developing a highly fatal form of cancer. In a study of more than 500,000 people reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, those who ate the most fat (about 40 percent of their daily calories) were 23 percent more likely to develop pancreatic cancer than those who ate the least (about 20 percent of their cals). Limit fat to 20 to 35 percent of your calories—about 40 to 70 grams total in an 1,800-calorie diet.

Go For Yolk

Research in 2009 suggests that egg yolk may be cancer-protective. The yellow stuff is rich in choline, which has been linked to lower rates of breast cancer. One yolk delivers 25 percent of your daily needs.

Hail a Cabbage

Each 22-calorie cup of cabbage is loaded with sulforaphane, a chemical that increases your body’s production of the enzymes that disarm cell-damaging, cancer-causing free radicals.

Be Like Popeye

A 2009 report in the International Journal of Cancer shows that people who ate the most folate-rich leafy greens, such as spinach, had half as many skin cancer tumors as those who ate the least. It’s thought that the folate in greens may help repair DNA.

Bite a Blackberry

It contains anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that have been shown to fight various forms of cancer, according to a new study in Cancer Prevention Research.

Try the Cheese Platter

A large-scale study of 120,000 women found that premenopausal women who consumed a lot of dairy products, especially low-fat and fat-free ones, ran a lower risk of breast cancer.

Serve the Salmon

Or any other fish high in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s can help mollify your cancer risk.

Eat the Whole Grain

Whole-grain carbohydrates are a great source of fiber. European researchers found that those with the highest daily intakes of fiber also had a 40 percent lower risk of developing colon cancer.

Sip Hot Tea

A 2007 study in The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry found that drinking 2 to 6 cups of hot green tea a day helps prevent skin cancer and may reverse the aging affects of the sun’s rays. Drink it hot to reap the greatest amount of catechins, a type of antioxidant with proven anti-cancer properties.

Get a D

Foods high in vitamin D, like low-fat milk, help detoxify cancer-causing chemicals released during the digestion of high-fat foods, according to a study at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Order Drinks with a Twist

According to University of Arizona research, lemon zest and orange zest contain d-limonene, an antioxidant that can reduce your risk of skin cancer by up to 30 percent if you consume quantities as small as 1 tablespoon per week.

Color Your Plate

A 14-year study found that those whose diets were highest in fruits and vegetables had a 70 percent lower risk of digestive-tract cancers.

'JUST TRUST IN MY SON,' SAYS MARY TO US AS WE SEEK THE BLESSINGS GOD HAS IN STORE FOR US

'JUST TRUST IN MY SON,' SAYS MARY TO US AS WE SEEK THE BLESSINGS GOD HAS IN STORE FOR US
Thus says the LORD: “If you remove from your midst oppression, false accusation and malicious speech; If you bestow your bread on the hungry and satisfy the afflicted; Then light shall rise for you in the darkness, and the gloom shall become for you like midday; Then the LORD will guide you always and give you plenty even on the parched land. He will renew your strength, and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring whose water never fails” (Isaiah 58:9-14).
Go with the flow. Let life open up to you. To repeat a theme we have conveyed: don't force things.
We should always wait on the Lord, and we should always follow His timetable.
Frustrated? In want of something that just isn't happening? Can't figure out why prayers aren't answered? There's only one solution: Let go of whatever it is you are yearning for and send it into God's Hands. Trust beyond surrender. Put your mind on other matters. Anxiety inhibits grace and can be caused by the spirit of fear. This fear can come in many ways. It can be the product of repeated action on our part, or it can be a familial trait. We inherit spiritual baggage just as we inherit anything else, and it’s a mixture of good and bad. There are spirits of gluttony, lust, sloth, infirmity, despair, greed, rebellion, impurity, and addiction. We see how divorce runs in certain families. Usually, it’s a combination of factors. Spirits magnify our weaknesses. If we are prone to nervousness, a spirit of anxiety or even paranoia may develop within us, inhibiting happiness. A disposition toward procrastination may turn into a spirit of sloth; a dabbling with the occult, or a yearning for control, can turn into the spirit of dominance (or even witchcraft). This all bears repeating.
As it says in Ephesians (6:16), faith should be held up as a shield against the fiery darts of the evil one, which are then extinguished.
"Just trust in my Son Jesus," Mary once told a desperate businessman who saw her. Divine Mercy. "Jesus, I trust in You."
When John Paul II approached death, he said simply, with no fear, nor hesitation, "It is time to go to the House of the Father."
Keep your eyes on the God of miracles.
He loves you more than you love yourself and sees the potential you have to be with Him in eternity. He knows that beneath the exterior, under the skin of the earthly body -- and often deep under the burdens of life -- is a being of tremendous beauty waiting to burst out of the cocoon and move skyward with the eyes of love.
With those eyes we elevate our vision above turmoil and beyond any problem -- to see the best of outcomes.
When we elevate our eyes, when we look above those who harass us, when we see beyond trials on earth, we are seeing into the miraculous.
No matter how “severe,” we’re on the road of glory. It's what Christ saw on the Cross. It's the Heaven He had in mind, even as He was crucified.
